COMPOSER
Previn, an award-winning composer, has been actively composing since the age of 9, when he wrote the piano piece titled Amarylis. With works including the 1st-Place Spirit of Borodino (recently performed and recorded by the Czech Philharmonic after being selected to be featured in the 2008 Masterworks of the New Era CD), and the uplifting full orchestral/choral work, Prayer in Our Land, Previn has shown the ability to compose for a wide variety of venues and occasions. His works were featured alongside those of J.S. Bach at Lyon Colleges 1998 Presidential Inauguration (Holy Hands), as well as at the 2004 Tipperary International Song of Peace Festival (I Can't Say No), where Previn was one of ten finalists chosen from several thousand contestants throughout the world. In addition to his numerous other works which encompass several genres, his experiences composing have been bolstered by what he learned while performing operatic roles such as Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, El Dancaire in Carmen, Martin in The Tender Land, Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, and Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus.
Previn began composing the music and writing the libretto for Salem in November of 2004, inspired by the real events of Salem, Massachusetts during the witch trials of 1692. After thorough research, Previn fashioned a storyline based on the actual events, and began the composition of several works that would become Salem.
Previn would like to dedicate the creation of this opera to his grandfather, John F. Hudetz, who helped him at an early age to appreciate the art of classical music and opera, and whose energetic spirit inspired all who knew him.
